Vetri on Urban Outfitters Deal: ‘We're Going to Make History'

"I think we're going to make history."

Chef Marc Vetri doesn't seem to be living with any regrets after he entered a deal with Philadelphia-based Urban Outfitters to acquire his Vetri Family of Restaurants group — an agreement that closed on Feb. 1.

The Philadelphia-based retailer last November announced it would be acquiring the restaurant group, a move the chef said would allow the Vetri Family group to move toward its goal of expansion. "Real negotiations" took place over the course of the year, but Urban had been working with the restaurant group for some time now, even providing seed money about two years ago, Vetri said during a discussion at Drexel University Monday morning.

The Urban deal will allow further expansion for the restaurant group, focusing specifically on concepts Amis and Pizzeria Vetri, but without the need for investors, loans or debt, Vetri said, since they now have Urban Outfitters' infrastructure.
