Vandalism May Force Closure of Wilmington Boys & Girls Club

A Wilmington Boys & Girls Club may need to close after officials say nearly $300,000 worth of heating, ventilation and air conditioning units and wiring were stolen from the roof of the club.

George Krupanski, president of the Boys & Girls Club of Delaware, tells NBC10 that vandals got onto the roof of the H. Fletcher Brown Boys & Girls Club in northeast Wilmington over the weekend and tore the HVAC units apart, likely for scrap.

The units are the only source of air distribution for the club, which serves more than 200 of the city's youth through childcare and education programs.

Officials say that the club was already in a financially difficult situation and is now stuck waiting on an insurance claim that could take months to process.
