Heavy snow on the roof apparently caused the collapse of a vacant mill in northern New Jersey, spurring the precautionary evacuation of several residents from four nearby buildings.
Paterson fire officials tell The Star Ledger that no one was injured in the collapse, which was reported around 9:45 a.m. Sunday.
They say the center of the four-story building on Gray Street collapsed, and part of the building's wall is leaning inward. Officials are concerned the wall might slide out or push the lower sections out into the street.
Twenty-three people who live near the site were placed in hotels and will likely be kept out of their homes until at least Monday.
Some homes on State Street were also evacuated, but those residents were allowed back in later Sunday.
