Drug Dealer Tries to Run Down Officers: Police

Officer opens fire on suspect

A suspected drug dealer tried to run down officers, police say — and one returned fire.

The incident played out along 69th Street near Walnut Street in Upper Darby around 5:30 p.m., said Delaware County dispatchers.

"As (police) approach the vehicle, he floors it and runs up on the sidewalk," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood. "Then he backs up and he tries to run over one of Upper Darby undercover officers — she fires one shot."

No officers were hurt during the drug arrest. The suspect was taken into custody, said Chitwood.

Investigators found a loaded semi-automatic pistol in the car along with heroin and crack cocaine, said Chitwood.

Police expect the suspect to face numerous charges.

While trying to flee, the suspect broke the window to a nearby store, said Chitwood. No one was hurt.
