In undoubted efforts to appeal to workers on the go, Uber has introduced uberWIFI in Philadelphia.
The taxi-like, application-based car service is offering wireless Internet for riders in the area. The program runs through Labor Day.
The WiFi service β courtesy of Google Apps for Businessβ is free, but must be requested before pick-up. Itβs only available in black cars made to fit a maximum of four people (itβs not available in Uber SUVs).
In the Uber app, interested users must choose a WiFi-enabled car. Once in the car, users can connect to the uberWIFI network from any Internet-compatible device β no password necessary.
This is the first time Uber is offering WiFi in cars in the United States, Uber spokeswoman Kaitlin Durkosh said. According to reports, Uber launched a similar, free WiFi service in Italy last year. It seems like there can be a chance the service could stick around past Labor Day, as well as expand to other U.S. cities.
