Should Uber Drivers Be Paid More? New Jersey Driver Sues for Overtime, Expenses

A former driver for the ride-hailing service Uber in New Jersey has sued the company claiming that he and hundreds of other drivers have been underpaid.

Uber said in a court filing that it denies the claims of Jaswinder Singh, of Hazlet, and says that he is not entitled to any relief.

The lawsuit is another from a driver for the service that seeks to have them declared employees rather than independent contractors.

Singh says that drivers completely rely on Uber for assignments and should be entitled to overtime, along with reimbursement for gas, tolls and other expenses.

Singh filed the suit in state court on April 22, but Uber had it moved to federal court on Friday.

Uber says it has about 15,000 drivers in New Jersey.
