Trucker Leaps Aboard Runaway Rig in Lehigh Valley

State police say a trucker leapt from his own rig to stop a tanker truck after its driver died behind the wheel on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Authorities say a trucker noticed the semi rolling slowly in the left lane on the northbound side of the Northeast Extension on Sunday afternoon.

Police say he parked his truck then ran to the slow-moving tanker and brought it to a halt in Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County. The man's name was not released.

Officials say 59-year-old Richard Cole, of Avondale, died behind the wheel of his truck. An autopsy is planned but his death doesn't appear to be suspicious.
