Truck Tire Crashes Through Roof

A runaway tire flew off an 18-wheeler on the Schuylkill Expressway on October 22, 2012. It hit a car, went airborne and then came crashing down through the roof of a nearby building on Vare Avenue.

But someone from Philly International Airport came out, took a look and said the tire did NOT come from a plane.

It took PennDOT, the Philly fire department and airport officials a little while to figure it out the tire was from a big rig.

The tire came off an 18-wheeler, according to Pennsylvania State Police and the driver didn't realize it until he got to a dump in West Deptford, N.J.
Close to 30 people were inside the building when the tire blew a hole in the roof.

Those workers got sent home for the day because they were pretty shaken up.

Crews spent the rest of the morning patching over the hole with plywood.
