Judge Bars Media, Delays Trooper Ambush Suspect Eric Frein's Hearing

A judge has postponed a hearing for a man charged with ambushing two troopers outside a Pennsylvania State Police barracks after reporters objected to being excluded from part of it.

Eric Frein is charged with opening fire outside the Blooming Grove barracks in 2014, killing Cpl. Bryon Dickson and seriously wounding Trooper Alex Douglass. The suspect led police on a 48-day manhunt before his capture. [[281109012, C]]

Frein's attorneys argue his video-recorded statement to police after his arrest should be thrown out. A judge asked reporters covering Tuesday's hearing to leave the courtroom so he could review the video. Media outlets objected, and the hearing was postponed.

Court documents say Frein told police that Dickson's slaying was an "assassination."

The defense is also challenging prosecutors' plan to seek the death penalty.
