Trial Ordered in Death of Man Found in Burning Car

The attorney representing a Maryland man charged in the shooting death of a man whose body was found in a burned-out car in south-central Pennsylvania says his client maintains that he acted in self-defense.

Eighteen-year-old Jonta Bishop of Hagerstown was ordered Wednesday to stand trial in Bedford County in the Sept. 25 death of 36-year-old James Deneen Jr. of Hyndman, whose body was found in a remote area of Londonderry Township.

Chief Public Defender Karen Hickey said during the preliminary hearing that her client has consistently said he acted in self-defense. But District Attorney Bill Higgins said that defense would be "an uphill battle" because the victim was shot in the back of the head.

Three other people are accused of having helped Bishop dispose of the body.
