Trial Opens in Robberies, Slayings Linked to Craigslist Ads

A suburban Philadelphia man is on trial in the shooting death of a man apparently killed after answering an advertisement on a social media site for sale of an all-terrain vehicle.

Twenty-five-year-old Thomas Coffee of Willow Grove is charged in the June 2013 shooting death of 27-year-old Daniel Cooke of Williamstown, New Jersey in north Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that a man testified Tuesday that he answered a Craigslist ad to try to trade his off-road dirt bike for a street-legal motorcycle but wound up being robbed at gunpoint.

Coffee is charged in three Craigslist robberies in June 2013 as well as the robbery of a teenager walking home from a barbershop.

Defense attorney Evan Hughes challenged witnesses' identifications of Coffee as the man who robbed them.
