Gov. Chris Christie Plans New Riverfront Park, Foot Bridge in Trenton

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says his administration will be investing nearly $20 million for a new pedestrian bridge connecting the Statehouse complex to the Delaware River waterfront.

The Republican, unveiled the plans on Wednesday alongside Democratic Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson.

Christie says it's part of his broader plans to revitalize the state capital, including a $300 million statehouse renovation and the addition of more lighting and security cameras.

Christie says about $15 million would come from the Transportation Department for the construction of a foot bridge from above the statehouse garage to a roughly 4-acre plot along the river.

The Environmental Protection Department will be using about $3.5 million for the project.

DEP Commissioner Bob Martin says the cash will come from a recent settlement with ConocoPhillips.
