Passenger Dies as Bus Collides With Refrigerated Van in Poconos

A passenger died in a crash involving a small transit bus in rural eastern Pennsylvania.

The Carbon County coroner has not released the dead passenger's name, and didn't immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.

The Carbon County Community Transit bus was operated by Easton Coach Co.

The bus was traveling on Route 209 in Franklin Township when it collided with a refrigerated utility van shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Township police and the coroner were investigating. Police say the crash happened on a rain slicked curve in the highway, but stopped short of saying who might be at fault.

The only other passenger on the bus suffered lesser injuries. The bus and van drivers were also hurt.

The bus company says it is cooperating with investigators.
