Tractor Trailer Crashes into Overpass, Splits on NJ Turnpike

A tractor trailer rammed into an overpass on the New Jersey Turnpike early Friday morning -- splitting in two and spilling its contents across the busy roadway.

The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of the highway near Exit 3 for Route 168 in Deptford Township around 5:30 a.m.

Police have yet to disclose if the driver was hurt in the crash.

The trailer's contents -- salt -- poured across lanes in both directions, causing major delays for commuters.

One lane of traffic was able to pass in each direction almost immediately after the accident occurred, although motorists who want to avoid any jams should consider taking Interstate-295.

The delayed continued for more than two hours after the crash happened.
