Officials in the southern New Jersey town where a toddler and teen were fatally hit by a vehicle have set up a trust fund to help their family.
Southampton Township administrator Kathleen Hoffman said the mayor and township committee established the Martinez family trust fund on Friday.
On Tuesday evening 18-year-old Jairisa Galindo was pulling her half-siblings, 2-year-old Jyonshiel Martinez and 6-year-old Kahariel Martinez, in a red wagon, alongside 8-year-old John Giles when they were struck by a vehicle. Thirteen-year-old Mahya Martinez was walking off-road nearby and was not hit.
Galindo and 2-year-old Jyonshiel Martinez were killed. Giles and Kahariel Martinez were in critical but stable condition at Camden's Cooper Hospital.
Mayor James Young Sr. called it a "tragedy for all."
The driver stopped and cooperated with investigators.
