Pa. Driver Killed When Runaway Tow Truck Hauling Bomb Squad Truck Smashes Car

State police said a western Pennsylvania man was killed when a runaway tow truck smashed into his vehicle.

The tow truck, owned by Abel Brothers of Malvern, was hauling a New York police bomb squad vehicle when the driver lost control Monday evening on a steep stretch of Route 31 known as Three Mile Hill in Bullskin Township. That's about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

The tow truck hit a sport-utility vehicle, killing the driver, 54-year-old Gregory Detar, of Connellsville.

Police were trying to determine whether the tow truck was speeding before the crash. The Associated Press is not naming the driver because he has not been charged or cited.

An employee for Abel Brothers says the company isn't commenting during the investigation. The company provides long-distance towing services.
