A new family-friendly destination in Philly is celebrating an unofficial holiday Sunday – National Miniature Golf Day.
Keystone Mini-Golf and Arcade, located at 161 Cecil B. Moore Ave. in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood, will host a tournament in honor of the festivity.
“Hopefully this will be an annual event,” said Drew Ferry, who opened Keystone with partner Bill Cannon Aug. 1.
The pair was inspired to open the business after an afternoon spent at the driving range, Ferry said.
“I think most people have had experience with mini-golf when they were younger,” Ferry said, “and moving into the city there is nothing like that. It is nostalgic.”
In operation less than two months, small groups of twenty-somethings, along with some families living nearby, have battled for a hole-in-one on the 9-hole indoor course each weekend. Groups are also booking private parties, ranging from company get-togethers and engagement celebartions, in the former warehouse space.
Open Thursday and Friday evenings starting at 3 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m., the kitschy course came together thanks in part to Ferry’s father, who worked with the two owners to construct each of the holes.

More than 20 people already signed up to compete in Sunday’s tournament at the BYOB course. At a cost of $25, each participant will play two rounds and receive a t-shirt, plus have a chance at prizes, including beer from Philadelphia Brewing Company and gift certificates from vintage shop Jinxed Philadelphia, urban farm Greens Grow and Philly Homebrew outlet.
