In little over a month, "Pokemon Go" has taken the world by storm, and one local tourism agency is leveraging its popularity with the launch of a new focused campaign to drive visitation to Montgomery County.
"Pokemon Go," which launched July 6, attracts at least 21 million users and has 4 million to 5 million downloads per day, according to research company Touchstone Research.
"Pokemon Go" is a GPS-enabled, augmented-reality game that puts Pokemon (pocket monsters) into real-life scenarios, using landmarks – like museums – as Pokestops, attracting gamers to flock there in order to get items such as Pokeballs, which they then use to catch wild Pokemon.
The Valley Forge Convention & Tourism Board — the tourism agency for Montgomery County — launched a mini marketing campaign called "PokeMontCo" to capitalize on "Pokemon Go's" popularity among millennials, and to help drive visitation to Montgomery County and its businesses and attractions.
