Top Aide to Wolf Seriously Considering US Senate Run

Democrats report that Gov. Tom Wolf's top aide is seriously considering running for U.S. Senate in 2016.

A spokesman for Katie McGinty said Tuesday that she expects to make a decision soon. McGinty ran unsuccessfully for governor last year before becoming Wolf's chief of staff.

McGinty is also being encouraged by national Democrats and Emily's List, a Democratic group backing female candidates who support abortion rights.

Former Gov. Ed Rendell says he told McGinty there's a chance she could win, but she'll have two tough elections. The first would be against Democrat Joe Sestak in the primary and the second would be against Republican incumbent Pat Toomey in the general election.

Rendell and others say raising money will be crucial to counter Sestak's strong connections to the party's grassroots.
