Three Dead in Crash Involving Truck Carrying Cows

State police say three people are dead and more than a dozen injured after a crash involving a car, a multi-passenger van and a pickup truck with a trailer carrying cows.

The accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 287 in Bernards Township at 10:32 p.m. Saturday.

Police said two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim died at Morristown Medical Center, where three others were taken. Two have serious injuries.

Nine people were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and two to Overlook Medical Center. All have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said some cows died and others were transported from the scene.

The road is closed and traffic is being detoured.

No other details were released. Police said more information will be available later Sunday.
