Threatening Note Spurs New Jersey Shopping Center Evacuation

Several businesses in a southern New Jersey shopping center were briefly evacuated after a threatening note was found taped to the front door of a tax preparation firm.

Authorities tell The Press of Atlantic City that the note made a threat against police officers.

The H&R Block office in the Pleasantville Shopping Center was closed on Saturday. But when responding officers saw the lights were on in the office and noticed a briefcase was just inside the door, they wanted to ensure that someone wasn't hiding inside.

The bomb squad and other emergency responders searched the unit and determined that no one was in the office and that the briefcase didn't pose a threat.

The person who wrote the note could face criminal charges for raising a false alarm.
