Thief Steals From Girl Scouts Raising Money for Troops: Cops

It happened Sunday around 5 p.m., at the Pathmark on 450 West Swedesford Road in Berwyn, Pa.

Police are searching for a man caught on surveillance video stealing from Girl Scouts who were raising money for troops overseas.

It happened Sunday around 5 p.m. at the Pathmark on 450 West Swedesford Road in Berwyn, Pa. Police say two girl scouts between the ages of 8 and 9 and their mothers were at a table inside the grocery store when the theft took place. A man wearing glasses and a scarf covering his face approached the table and reached into a donation jar, stealing an unknown amount of money, according to investigators. The man then allegedly reached into the cash box and grabbed around $20 before one of the scouts closed the box. Police say he then ran out of the building, entered a blue vehicle in the parking lot and fled the scene.

β€œI’m not that surprised,” said Brad Lamson-Scribner of Devon. β€œStuff happens everywhere. People think the area is really nice and nothing bad happens but it does. It’s terrible.”

β€œIt’s like you can’t get involved in anything anymore because now it’s like everything is tainted,” said Julie Vanderslice of Devon.

The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 20 and 30 of medium height and weight. Police say he was wearing a dark-colored head covering, dark-colored shirt and light-colored pants.
