A nearly century-old theater and movie house in suburban Philadelphia is being reborn as a craft beer pub and restaurant.
The (Doylestown) Intelligencer reports that a local developer is revamping Quakertown's Palace Theater into the Quakertown Brewing Co.
Co-owner Alicia DeMarco says the restaurant will offer beer brewed on the premises along with pub fare from local farms.
“We want to focus on bringing that money back into Quakertown,” she told the paper.

“I see a lot of untapped potential with Quakertown Borough and I think, with this Gateway project, it’s a perfect jumping off point with the revitalization efforts in downtown Quakertown.”
The Palace Theater was built in 1922 and hosted vaudeville shows and later silent movies followed by talkies. It became an appliance store in the 1970s but has been vacant for the past few years.
As part of the new brewery, silent films will be projected onto a 20-foot back wall.
DeMarco says she hopes for a grand opening in spring 2015.
