Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation will host the fifth summer of The Oval, featuring advanced architectural designs along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. In partnership with PORT Urbanism, the cutting edge design hopes to inspire people to envision future potential uses for the Parkway beyond Eakins Oval.
Philadelphia Parks & Recreation in partnership with Fairmount Park Conservancy is unveilling their fifth summer of The Oval on July 19 with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The picture above displays an aerial view of the design by Philadelphia and Chicago-based PORT Urbanism.
PORT Urbanism works to design and implement projects in the public realm on streets, plazas, parks, and public waterfronts. This image is a daytime design of their project on Eakins Oval.
Led by Christopher Marcinkoski, Megan Born, and Andrew Moddrell, PORT is recognized for its compelling, memorable, and culturally-relevant design solutions. This image displays their work against the night sky on Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
This map shows the three locations along the parkway that OVAL+ has developed. They will all be introduced to the media on Wednesday and to the public on Thursday, July 20.
The Lil Pop Shop will be returning to the Oval this year as one of the food trucks available throughout the summer.
Last year's event was fun for people of all ages. The kids got to have a good time with live music and dancing. This year, DJ Sonny James will be on Eakins Oval providing music for the crowds.
Adults can join in on the fun as well. As the sun goes down, illuminated lights along the park will set the scene for the popular return of the beer garden.
Come out and enjoy the fun on the Parkway starting July 20 on Wednesday's through Sundays. These community friendly events will run until August 20th.
