CAUGHT ON CAM: Temple University Police Car Catches Fire at Gas Station

A Temple University police car caught fire Monday at a gas station in North Philadelphia.

The fire occurred next to a gas pump at the BP Gas Station at Broad Street and Girard Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. Derek Spak, who was at the gas station at the time of the blaze, told NBC10 several officers were pumping gas when one of them drove off with the pump still attached.

“One of the police cruisers went to go back onto the street and forgot the pump was connected to the gas tank,” Spak said. “Ended up pulling the whole gas tank over, hit the floor and the whole thing caught fire.”

The officers were able to get out of the vehicle as responding firefighters put out the flames. No one was hurt during the incident. Police continue to investigate.
