Taylor Swift Gives Shout Out to Local Teen

As she was named Entertainer of the Year, Taylor Swift gave a shout out to a local teen battling Leukemia who was supposed to be her date to the Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday night.

As she stepped up to the stage after being named "Entertainer of the Year" at the Academy of Country Music Awards for the second year in a row, Taylor Swift gave a shout out to her date who couldn't make it on Sunday night.

"My date tonight was supposed to be a high school football player named Kevin McGuire and he is not here. But I promised him I'd give him a shout out. So Kevin and all your family and friends, thank you for wanting to take me to the ACMs," Swift said on stage.

Kevin McGuire, a senior at Sterling High School in Somerdale, was invited to the Academy of Country Music Awards by Swift back in February. McGuire, who is battling Leukemia, originally asked Swift if she could go to his prom with him on June 1, which happens to be the same day as his birthday. He gained support through a massive Facebook page created by his sister which features tens of thousands of people.

Swift responded to McGuire through her own Facebook fan page, informing the teen that she could not make it to his prom. To make up for it however, Swift invited Taylor to the ACM Awards which the teen eagerly accepted.
