Teen Girl Likely Struck by Stray Bullets in July 4th Shooting

A shooting in Philadelphia's Ogontz neighborhood left two people attending a July 4th gathering hurt

A 13-year-old girl and a man attending a holiday gathering were likely caught in the fire of a July 4th shooting in Philadelphia’s Ogontz neighborhood.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. Thursday along Medary Avenue, near North 18th Street, Philadelphia police said.

The teen was struck multiple times in both legs and listed in stable condition at the hospital, investigators said. A 26-year-old man was hit in the right leg and was also hospitalized.

It appeared likely that stray bullets struck both people as they attended a July 4th party, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Police didn’t reveal a motive for the shooting.

The search for the shooter or shooters continued Friday.
