A former New Jersey high school teacher has been sent to prison for seven years for posing online as a teenage boy in what prosecutors say was an attempt to lure a female student into sex.
Fifty-year-old Michael Furey of West Deptford was a biology teacher in Paulsboro when authorities say he sent sexually charged messages to the 17-year-old.
In 2010 prosecutors say he tried to pick the girl up in his vehicle after she visited a friend's house. The victim said it was on a route that only she, her friend and her online acquaintance would have known about.
The 27-year Air Force veteran was convicted of official misconduct and attempted luring. Under Friday's sentence, he'll be eligible for parole in five years.
He'll have to register as a sex offender.
