TCNJ Dorm's ‘Loser' Namesake Was a Segregationist: Students

TCNJ wants 'a conversation & dialogue' to learn more about what the students' research discovered about Paul Loser

A group of students at The College of New Jersey are petitioning the Ewing school to change the name of one of its residence halls after learning its namesake was a segregationist.

NJ.com reports that flyers urging students to support a name change for Paul Loser Hall began circulating on campus Wednesday.

The three students behind the initiative took up the cause after learning of Loser's past when conducting research on Trenton's educational system from the 1930s through the 1960s.

The poster states that Loser "openly and unabashedly segregated black children" while serving as schools superintendent in New Jersey's capital from 1932 to 1955.

A TCNJ spokesman said the school welcomes "a conversation and dialogue" to learn more about what the students' research discovered about Loser.
