Delaware State Police Ask for Public's Help in Finding Cabdriver Killer

Police asked for the public's help Thursday to find the killer of a taxicab driver found dead in his vehicle parked on the shoulder of a rural Delaware road.

A passer-by called troopers and reported the suspicious taxicab parked on the side of Country Living Road near Hardscrabble Road (State Route 20) in Millsboro on Aug. 20, according to Delaware State Police.

Troopers found 45-year-old William Toomey of Millsboro dead inside the passenger compartment. Toomey was a driver employed by Delaware Beach Taxi.

Troopers declines to say how he died.

Police said Thursday that the day he was killed, Toomey picked a man up on Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach just south of the Sea Esta IV Motel around 7:45 p.m. The cab drove to Millsboro and was in a neighborhood known as Parker's Point for about 10 minutes.

Around 8:45 p.m., a witness saw a man in the taxi driver's seat who doesn't match Toomey's appearance.

At 10 p.m., Toomey's body was found.

Police are looking for witnesses who may have seen the taxi or the male passenger.
