Man Swipes More Than 1 Dozen Taxi Cabs in Philadelphia: Police

Philadelphia police arrested a man who they say stole 17 taxi cabs -- two of which were used in committing crimes.

Earlier this month, police arrested Eric Kemp, 24, and charged him with 17 counts of auto theft and related counts.

The suspect swiped 12 taxi cabs in a one-week span in West Philadelphia and Southwest Philadelphia. The thefts happened between June 7 and June 16, said police. Since then another five cabs went missing -- the most recent on Sept. 9. Including cabs parked in nearby Upper Darby.

Some of the stolen taxi cabs bear the logo of "215 Get A Cab."

Lt. John Walker said two of the stolen cabs were used during crimes. The first was used during a shooting at 41st and Ogden Streets on June 9. The second happened on Monday when three males jumped out of a cab and committed an armed robbery.

Police said the other cabs were found on the street and not used in any crimes.
