Task Force Studies Port Expansion Options for Wilmington

Plans for a long-term strategic study for the Port of Wilmington are dovetailing into the work of a task force studying the feasibility of expanding port operations in Delaware.

The task force, which met for the first time Wednesday, is awaiting responses to the port's request for qualifications from consultants seeking to conduct the study. The responses are due Sept. 23, one week before the task force's next meeting.

Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock, a task force member who also chairs the port's governing board, says the study will look at maximizing use of the port's current facilities and the feasibility of expanding. It will also examine the potential for building a container facility along the Delaware River and where it might be built.
