University of Delaware Names Interim Leader

Trustees of the University of Delaware have appointed a search committee to identify a successor to outgoing president Patrick Harker.

Officials also said Friday that Nancy Targett, dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, will serve as interim president after Harker resigns July 1 to become president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

Targett, who lives in Sussex County, has been a member of the UD faculty since 1984 and a dean since 2005.

Gov. Jack Markell said Targett, who served on his transition team when he was first elected governor, is an excellent choice to lead UD during its transition.
