3rd Suspect Admits Deadly AC Casino Carjacking

Camden man faces at least 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony murder

The last of three suspects has admitted killing a man and wounding a woman during an armed carjacking that started inside an Atlantic City casino parking garage.

Camden resident Raheem Simmons pleaded guilty Thursday to felony murder in a plea deal with Atlantic County prosecutors. They'll recommend he receive a 30-year prison term when he's sentenced in June.

He and two other Camden men were accused of robbing 28-year-old Sunil Rattu and 24-year-old Radha Ghetia in September 2011. The victims were forced to drive from the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort's parking garage to an alley, where they were shot.

Rattu died from two gunshot wounds to the head. Ghetia survived two shots in the upper body.

It was the second fatal carjacking at the casino in little more than a year.

Simmons’ co-defendant Phillip Byrd admitted Wednesday that he pulled the trigger. He faces a 47-year sentence with parole possible after 40 years. Earlier, fellow co-defendant Eric Darden agreed to a 40-year sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years.
