Drivers were turned away from an area bridge for hours this morning following a crash that involved a police car.
The Burlington County Bridge Commission Police cruiser collided with another vehicle around 12:30 a.m. along the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge. After the wreck both vehicles appeared heavily damaged -- each car blocking a different direction of traffic.
At least two people were hurt. The extent of their injuries wasn’t clear.
For nearly five hours the bridge remained closed as investigators worked to figure out what caused the wreck.
The bridge (Route 73) connects the Tacony section of Northeast Philadelphia to Palmyra, N.J.
Motorists were urged to avoid the bridge and take the Betsy Ross Bridge or another Delaware River crossing instead.
