Long Beach Island beaches re-opened Sunday after they were closed earlier in the weekend.
Officials closed beaches in the borough Saturday after lifeguards found medical waste in the water.
Dozens of syringes washed ashore, forcing officials to close most of the island's ocean waters to swimmers. About 14 miles from North Beach Haven north to Barnegate Light were closed.
A spokesperson with the State Department of Environmental Protection says there is no evidence of medical waste dumping. They believe the syringes and trash came from storm drains along the coast that overflowed with the recent rain.
Long Beach Island is the most visited stretch of sand along the Jersey Shore.
