Local investors in Philadelphia's SugarHouse Casino are trying to stop the state gaming board from issuing a second slots license in the city.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the minority partner in SugarHouse, RPRS Gaming L.P., argues the board doesn't have the authority to award a license that it previously revoked. Three years ago, the board revoked the license for a failed Foxwoods casino project in the city.
The local SugarHouse investors also say a second casino license in the city would cause them “irreparable injury.”
Gaming board spokesman Richard McGarvey say the agency is reviewing the investors' claim.
The board is reviewing six applications for the second Philadelphia license and expects to make a decision early next year.
