Streak of Teen Shootings Continues in Southwest Philadelphia

The two other shootings were fatal. In one of them, a 17-year-old rapper was killed.

A 16-year-old girl became the latest teenage shooting victim in Southwest Philadelphia when gunfire rang out early Monday morning.

Officers arrived to a house on the 5600 block of Whitby Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. and found the girl shot in the neck and hand, Philadelphia Police Department Cpt. Scott Drissel said. They performed a "scoop and run," a lifesaving measure in which officers transport a person themselves instead of waiting for paramedics, and rushed the girl to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

According to Drissel, there were multiple teenagers at the house, but no adults, when officers arrived. Officers also did not find a gun.

The girl is currently in critical but stable condition, Drissel said. The other teenagers in the house at the time of the shooting are being questioned by police.

The 16-year-old's shooting is one of a spate of recent shootings in Southwest Philadelphia, two of which were fatal.

The first left 17-year-old rapper Tauhid "Tata Chapo" Collins dead on the 5800 block of Angora Terrace Friday night. Then, moments after the end of a Sunday night vigil in which mourners gathered to remember the boy, more shots rang out.

This time, an 18-year-old was hit in the neck, ear and temple. He died at a hospital after his body was found on the 6000 block of Angora Terrace, just two blocks from where Collins died.
