A stranded dolphin rescued by the beach patrol at the New Jersey shore has died.
Wednesday around noon a striped dolphin was found with a broken fin. Beach-goers, lifeguards and members of the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol came to its aid. They cooled it with buckets of water and wet shirts before the group helped load the dolphin on a vehicle which took it to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine.
According to the stranding center, due to several lesions that indicated a viral infection, the dolphin was euthanized.
The center in Brigantine was awaiting results of a necropsy to determine more information about the cause of death.
