A West Philadelphia store owner shot a man who was attempting to rob him early Friday morning and police say the shootout spilled into the street.
The 31-year-old suspect walked into Wyalusing Food Market at 54th Street and Wyalusing Avenue armed with a gun around 8:15 and demanded money, said police.
The owner's wife was behind the counter and gave the suspect $40, said investigators.
"She called me and told me to come quick, that some guy has started to robbed the store" said daughter Katherine Nunez. "Once the guy pointed the gun at her, she just, like tried to back away, but she did gave him the money."
The store owner was in a back room and saw what was happening on a security camera. He went to the front of the store and started firing, according to police.
Investigators say shots were fired inside and outside the store and three guns were found on a street corner near the store.
"As he comes from behind the counter, the offender fires two shots at the owner inside the store, missing him" said Lt. John Walker.

"The owner returned four shots at the offender. After the exchange of gunfire, the male runs out of the store, the owner comes out to see which direction the male ran, runs a short distance after him and the male turns on him again with the gun" Walker added.
The suspect was shot in the stomach and leg, he's in critical condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, according to investigators.
No charges have been filed.
