State Prepares for Online Gambling Launch

New Jersey is getting ready for Internet gambling with a flurry of activity this week.

Casinos and their online partners are doing last-minute tests to make sure their systems are ready for the start of a five-day invitation-only test period starting Thursday evening.

If all goes well with the test period, Internet gambling will start statewide on Nov. 26.

And a lawmaker tried to rally opposition to Las Vegas billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson's plan to try to ban online gambling in the United States.

State Senator Ray Lesniak says he'll unveil a proposed expansion of Internet gambling in New Jersey on Thursday.

The state is also looking forward to an upcoming vote by Nevada casino regulators that would legalize multi-state slots jackpots, something that New Jersey has long wanted.
