A man poured accelerants throughout his Delaware County home, ignited a flame then shot himself overnight, said police.
Firefighters entered Michael Schoen’s home along Granite Terrace near E Thomson Avenue around early Friday morning to find the 57-year-old man dead of an apparent gunshot wound in a second-floor bedroom, said Spring Police Chief Joseph Daly.
Flames didn’t really reach the part of the home where firefighters found him, said Daly.
Investigators found gallons of flammable materials in multiple rooms in the home including the basement where it appeared the fire may have started.
Police said Schoen drove a truck until her recently lost his job. Police had never really responded to any issues at the home outside of performing a well being check on Schoen last week where he spoke to an officer through the front door.
