South Jersey Food Company Laying off Dozens, Sending Jobs Out of Country

A New Jersey-based company is laying off nearly seven dozen employees to focus on its out-of-country facility, according to a WARN notice filed with the state of New Jersey.

Swedesboro, N.J.-based sugar product manufacturer and packager Royal Ingredients will be laying off 80 employees this year from its Gloucester County facility, according to the WARN notice, or Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification.

The layoffs, scheduled for May 20, will take place so the company can consolidate its production operations in its existing facilities in Mexico — "the country in which its raw material is sourced," according to the WARN notice. The employees will receive severance and will be paid his or her final earned wages, and accrued and unused paid time off through the date of termination, the notice said.

The terminations include 54 production associates, two quality assurance technicians and one production lead. The company did not immediately respond for a request for comment.
