A Laurel man is being charged with murder after police say he killed his mother by nearly decapitating her.
Delaware State Police Sgt. Richard Bratz says 61-year-old Yolande Georges was found dead inside her home by family members on Jan. 7. Bratz says Georges sustained a neck wound so deep it amounted to near decapitation.
Officers found a machete with blood on it elsewhere in the house.

Hours earlier, an officer stopped Dukinson Appolon for walking in the middle of the road. The officer said Appolon began stabbing himself in the neck with a pen, and that he had blood on his clothes and face. The office took Appolon into custody after using a taser on him.
Court documents said 25-year-old Appolon later admitted to the crime.
It's not indicated in court records whether an attorney is yet representing Appolon.
