Demi Lovato's Atlantic City Concert Canceled After Apparent Overdose, Free Concert Takes Its Place

Demi Lovato was set to play the Atlantic City BeachFest Concert Series on Thursday. Instead Cheat Codes and Lauv will perform a free concert.

Pop singer’s Demi Lovato’s concert on the Atlantic City beach was canceled hours after she was hospitalized after an apparent overdose in California.

A free concert will take place instead.

Lovato was set to perform her only East Coast concert of the summer as part of the Atlantic City BeachFest Concert Series Thursday night.

The concert will still go on with opener Lauv to perform, concert promoter LiveNation said, but Cheat Codes steps in for Lovato in what is now a free performance starting at 7 p.m.

Free tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com.

Ticket holders for the initial Lovato show have options, including attending Sunday’s The Chainsmokers concert on the beach or getting a refund.

"You can now use your original July 26 paid ticket to gain entry to The Chainsmokers show on the AC Beach this Sunday, July 29, (in the same designated section purchased for July 26)," concert organizers said. "Refunds will be available at point of purchase if you do not wish to attend The Chainsmokers concert on July 29."

Lovato was transported to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles Tuesday following a suspected overdose, sources familiar with the incident told NBC News.

First responders were called to a residence in the 8000 block of Laurel View Drive in the Hollywood area, the sources said. They used naloxone, also known by its trade name Narcan, to reverse the effects of the overdose.

In March, the 25-year-old celebrated maintaining six years of sobriety. Lovato has for years been open about her battles with drug and alcohol addictions, as well as with bipolar disorder, eating disorders and self-harm. She underwent rehab in 2010, at age 18.

The hashtag #PrayForDemi trended on Twitter and several celebrities posted supportive words Tuesday, including Missy Elliott, Ariana Grande, Brad Paisley, Kesha, Bebe Rexha, Meghan Trainor, Maren Morris, Kehlani and British electronic group Clean Bandit, whose current single "Solo" features Lovato.

Tuesday evening, Lovato's spokesperson told NBC News; "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support. Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy."
