Man Shot in Face Crashes Car, Dives Into Philadelphia Police Cruiser

Philadelphia Police find evidence of a shooting about 1 mile from where a man shot in the face crashed his SUV near Einstein Medical Center

An attempted traffic stop in Philadelphia turned into much more late Wednesday night.

The officer spotted an SUV running red lights near North Broad Street and Olney Avenue so he gave chase around 11:30 p.m.

The vehicle then swerved and crashed into a sign just outside Einstein Medical Center. The man, who was shot in the face, then dove into the police cruiser to seek help, Philadelphia police said.

The officer brought him to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition Thursday morning.

Police then searched for the shooting scene, finding a 50-foot trail of blood and evidence of a shooting about one mile away near 12th Street and Medary Avenue in the city’s Fern Rock section.

"We believe there’s a good possibility that’s where this 30-year-old victim was shot," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

No word yet on what led to the shooting.
