Seven Area Hospitals get National Recognition in ‘Top Hospitals' Ranking

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania/Penn Presbyterian Medical Center was the top-ranked area hospital in the U.S. News & World Report’s annual report on the country’s best hospitals.

HUP/Penn Presbyterian — two University of Pennsylvania Health System hospitals that operate under one license — ranked ninth nationally, and was the only hospital in this region to crack the top-20 and make the publication’s “Honor Roll” listing hospitals delivering “exceptional treatment across multiple ares of care.”

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, ranked first followed by the Cleveland Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

The U.S News rankings analyze nearly 5,000 hospitals in 25 areas of care that include medical specialties, procedures and conditions. Objective measures used in the scoring include patient survival rates, numbers of patients, infection rates, and nurse staffing ratios. Physician survey results are also used in ranking the hospitals.
