Serial Robber Getting Help From a Woman: Police

Police target in not only on robbery suspect but an alleged female getaway driver

A serial robber -- believed to be addicted to drugs -- targeting businesses in Delaware County struck again Tuesday night, according to investigators.

And, he might not be acting alone.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told NBC10 Wednesday morning that investigators were also looking for a woman believed to be the getaway driver for the suspect.

Chitwood said he believed the Bonnie and Clyde duo is local and he hoped an arrest would be made soon.

Police even raided a home Wednesday in relation to the case but no arrests were made.

On Tuesday morning, police said a man they believe to be addicted to heroin tried to rob a Subway restaurant on the 1100 block of Baltimore Pike in Springfield, Pa. They said he was armed with both a knife and gun.

The suspect fled the scene empty-handed because the register was locked, according to investigators.

Police feared the man would strike again on Tuesday since he didn't get any money during his attempt in the morning. And that's exactly what investigators say he did. According to police, the suspect struck the Swiss Farms Store on West Chester Pike in Broomall shortly before 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police did not reveal how much money he stole.

Tuesday night's incident marks the suspect's eighth robbery and the first time he's struck twice in one day, according to investigators.

"This is a bad thing waiting to happen," said Chitwood during a press conference Tuesday morning. "We gotta get this guy off the street."

Police believe the man's crime spree began on Oct. 19 at the CVS on the 800 block of Lansdowne Avenue in Drexel Hill. Aside from the CVS store and the two latest robberies on Tuesday, police say the suspect targeted the following businesses on the following days:

Oct. 26: Swiss Farms Store on 1845 State Road in Upper Darby

Oct. 28: Utopia Salon on 365 West Chester Pike in Havertown

Oct. 30: Hollywood Tans on 1049 Pontiac Road in Drexel Hill

Oct. 31: Swiss Farms Store on 1845 State Road in Upper Darby

Nov. 2: Swiss Farms Store in Springfield

The man who has light-colored hair was wearing a Yankees hoodie during the recent Subway restaurant incident.

Police put together a sketch of the suspect and have also released surveillance video to the public. If you know this man, please call authorities.

A $2,000 reward was offered for the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
