SEPTA Places Transit Police Officer on Leave After 2 Arrests

A Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority police officer has been placed on leave following two arrests this year.

KYW-TV reports 30-year-old Officer Steven Miele was arrested Monday and charged with burglary and theft following a domestic incident. The six-year department veteran was charged earlier this year with assault stemming from an incident in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey.

SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel says the allegations are disappointing and embarrassing to the department. He says the police board of inquiry will determine the appropriate discipline.

It's unclear if Miele has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
