Man Trying to Catch SEPTA Bus Hit, Killed

Man run over as he tries to catch a Route 15 bus on Girard Avenue: cops

A man died Friday morning after being struck by a SEPTA bus while trying to apparently board the bus on Girard Avenue near 8th Street in North Philadelphia, according to Philadelphia Police.

Around 9:15, the man was trying to catch an eastbound Route 15 bus that had just stopped to drop off and pick up passengers at the center island on Girard Avenue, police said.

As the man, later identified as 62-year-old William Bogl from the 3200 block of F Street, tried to board the bus he fell down and was run over by the rear tires of the bus, police said.

Police tell NBC10 that Bogl was taken to Hahnemann Hospital with severe head trauma where he was pronounced dead around 9:40 a.m.

The bus had about 20 passengers on board at the time of the incident and none of those passengers were hurt, SEPTA said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
